Prayers and Thoughts for the 5th Anniversary of 9/11

On Sunday, September 10th, our New York Jewish Healing Center is co-sponsoring the Interfaith Memorial Service: Remembering Those Who Dies on 9/11/01 on the Fifth Anniversary of the Attacks with Congregation B’nai Jeshurun and The Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew. Below are quotes from previous year’s commemorations. We encourage you to join with us for this event as well as to share the below with your community.

In Spite of Everything, by Anne Frank

It’s really a wonder that I haven’t dropped all my ideals, because they seem to absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can’t build my hopes on a foundation of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness. I hear the approaching thunder, I can feel the suffering of millions, and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come out right one of these days; that this cruelty will end, and that peach and tranquility will return again. In the meantime, I must hold on to my ideals for perhaps the day will come when I shall be able to carry them out.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, Holy Scriptures, A New Translation, Copyright 1937

To everything there is a season,
And a time to every purpose under the heaven;
A time to be born and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck that which is planted;
A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to lose;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silent, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time for war, and a time for peace.
